Updates on Identifying Dance Recital Participants

I got some good help from Randy Edwards (DHS '68) with identifying dance recital participants in the photos I posted last week.  Recall that they show adult women and little girls on the raised platform (it's hardly a stage) in the old Knights of Columbus Hall in the old Salvage Building.

Here's the photo of the girls with ids.  I assume that is Mrs. Baker playing the piano.

L-to-R: Sharon Strickland, Janie Wheeler, Martha Greenwald & (unidentified).

Here are our best guesses at the adult women.

L-to-R: Lily Mae Hickey, (unidentified), Mary Frierson, Doris Kruger, (unidentified) & Lou Armstrong.  (Judy Schrum may be one of the unidentified women.)

By modern standards the Hall wasn't large, but it was one of the roomiest meeting areas in town.  The Lions Club met there; so did the Quarterback Club, as we've seen in other photos.

In my day, it was used for parties and receptions.  Carol Goehring Terral (DHS '67) has told me she had her wedding reception there.  I've posted pictures of a Lions Club pancake supper (thanks to Linda Hagler Mosk) which show the kitchen area in the Hall.

The cafeteria at Lakeview Elementary opened in 1953 and began hosting hosting events, but the KC Hall served as a town meeting place into the 1970s.
