I received the following information from Jerry Anderson about a big event in Rockwall this Friday night. Rockwall is honoring the '63 State Championship team:
This is the 50th anniversary of the RHS 1963 State Championship game against Dulles HS on December 21, 1963, at Waco. The RISD will honor and recognize members of the team this coming Friday, October 4, 2013 at the football game between Rockwall and Mesquite Horn at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium. Game time is 7:30 pm. Two events are scheduled on Friday:
1. At 5:00 pm, there will be a dedication ceremony for the "State Champions" sign that will be moved from the courthouse square to the football field that is on Kyle Drive next to the high school and just off the I-30 westbound service road. The sign is to be erected at an elevation so it can be seen from the highway and will be illuminated.
2. The 1963 team members will be recognized on the field at the coin toss before the Rockwall-Horn football game at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium and sit as a group near the press box during the game. Highlights of the State Championship game will be shown on the scoreboard throughout the game.
Many of you were in the stands at Baylor Stadium on that cold, rainy day and will remember the excitement and joy of winning the game in the last 35 seconds. The festivities this Friday will be a chance to relive the moment and to renew old friendships.
I told Jerry that maybe Marc Noel will drop the big pass in the replay on the big scoreboard!
Well, 50 years ago Rockwall did a number on Seagoville. Jackie Anderson (Jerry's younger brother), Marc Noel, and Kenny Terry did most of the damage. Here is an account of the game.
Jerry sent me two photos from games played earlier in the season:
