Honolulu Celebrates VJ Day, August 14, 1945

Daniel Stavinoha (DHS '68) sent me this clip. I thought it was amazing. It shows spontaneous celebrations in Honolulu on the day Japan surrendered and ended WWII. It's just my opinion, but we can never understand how previous generations felt about historic events because our minds are clouded by certain knowledge of how history played out. For this reason we can never really understand history in the way actual participants did.

Sullivan's Memorial Day Tribute to WWII Vets is good, too. The link is on his Web site.
